Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital has a storied history. It began with a small group of women who wanted to help people who couldn’t afford health care. They passed a purse and asked anyone named Mary, or anyone who knew someone named Mary – the most common women’s name in 1891 – to donate a dime. The donations supported the first “Mary free bed” at a local hospital.
This history inspired the branding for Mary Free Bed Foundation’s first Employee Giving Campaign: With a Mary Heart. The campaign exceeded it’s goal by 12.8%.
